Flo Takes The Pain Out Of Commercials

Watching TV is great if you like commercials. If you’re looking for a good 23-46 minutes of storytelling I’d point you to Netflix and Hulu. TV is all about shilling crap, and sitting through it can be a real grind sometimes (Thank God for the mute button and DVR’s) but every now and then there’s a commercial or series of ads that begs to be watched. That’s how I feel about every Progressive ad aired since 2008.

The Progressive Girl; Flo, doesn’t try to wow viewers with production values, or abstract metaphors. Her ads aren’t disguised as comedy shorts, they don’t pander to the viewers or surround the product with hyperbole. Flo sells insurance, plain and simple, and she does so with savvy, humor and fun-loving perk.

Simply put; Flo succeeds in getting people to watch Progressive ads because she’s likable. No tricks, no gimmicks, just a smile and a pitch. It’s honest, and I love Flo for that.
